Looking for a Bed in Darwin
Clown Doctors Dr Ker Plunk and Dr Chair had a fantastic day in Royal Darwin Hospital in July. Dr Ker Plunk, who usually works in the Lismore Clown Doctor team, thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to have a clown round at the hospital! Our mission of the day was to find the bed where he was born. As we walked into the hospital foyer, Dr Ker Plunk’s mother greeted us and wished us luck! We searched fanatically, asked many staff and saw many beds, and although we did not find the actual bed we have a few leads for another time.
Throughout the day, Dr Ker Plunk continued to see plenty of family as he is related to half of Darwin! He thoroughly enjoyed speaking the Top End lingo again, and luckily Dr Chair had his pocket dictionary with him.
While on our quest, some of the children we met were Modra a 16-year-old boy from Tiwi Islands who waited patiently for our visit. Although he had spinal injuries and limited hand movement, Modra was a delightful boy with a very positive attitude. In Paediatrics Isolation we met toddlers, Justin and Sammy, who were absolutely besotted with the bubbles. Dr Chair gave the staff an octopus massage, while Dr Ker Plunk performed some magical wonders.
In Accident and Emergency, the staff were very happy to see us and we had laughs with many patients. The doctors, finding it difficult to deal with a son and his elderly mother, asked that we visit them. As soon as we pulled the curtains back they were in fits of laughter!!! We did nothing!
We had a wonderful day and would LOVE to do it again!
