smile every Day!
The annual Smile Day campaign for 2007 is now over, and we’d like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped us to ‘Make every day a Smile Day’ during the months of March and April.
The aims of the Smile Day campaign are to raise awareness about what Clown Doctors do and to raise much needed funds for our 18 programs around Australia. It is run in conjunction with Cadbury Schweppes, Principal Partner.
This year we launched the campaign with our Smile Day website. Other activities included workplace fundraising which the Commonwealth Bank staff supported with their usual gusto hosting various activities in numerous branches and bank divisions. We are still tallying the funds from their efforts but once again, the staff has done a fantastic job, and their financial contributions will go towards our national programs.
Miles for Smiles Walk
Cadbury Schweppes and Commonwealth Bank staff teamed up to organise the Miles for Smiles Walk from Burnie to Claremont in Tasmania which was an even bigger success than anticipated raising over $60,000. this was an opportunity for people all around Tasmania to join in the walk and to participate in raising funds. All funds raised from this event wil be sued in Tasmania.
10th Anniversary Fundraising Gala
The Clown Doctors 10th anniversary fundraising gala was held at the Randwick Pavilion, Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney on 29 March. This was an opportunity for the foundation to mark its 10th anniversary and pay tribute to the wonderful work that the Clown Doctors do on a daily basis in our hospitals. Carolyn Martin, Sophie Delezio’s mother, spoke from the heart about her experience with Clown Doctors through Sophie’s many visits to hospital. Thank you Carolyn for sharing your story with us. Special guests included Sophie’s family, Dr Jonny Taitz, Assistant Director, Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick and his wife Laura, Mikey Robins our Clown Doctor Ambassador and his wife Laura.
Entertainment on the night was provided by John Paul Young, who sang our all-time favourite “Love is in the Air”, Miss Judy who dazzled us with her hoola hoop act and Chris E Thomas and her Rubber Band who had people dancing the night away. Special thanks to all those involved in making the night a huge success.
holySheet! Inaugural Golf Day
This year’s campaign finished off on a high note with our inaugural golf day, hosted by the Lakes Golf Club in Sydney. Special thanks must go to Nick Hillyard and Millia Mellick from holySheet!, and Beverly Brocklehurst a Humour Foundation volunteer who worked tirelessly to organise the event and run the day, which raised $30,000. In true Clown Doctor style plenty of laughter was had on each hole. Plans are underway for next year – corporate and individual teams are welcome. Contact us for further information.
Thanks!
The Smile Day campaign is a huge undertaking, and we rely very heavily on the support of our corporate partners, sponsors, their staff, our volunteers and our pro-bono contributors who are our extended ‘workforce’ and without whom we couldn’t complete this campaign. Please accept our warmest thanks for making this year a success.
