As Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Western Australia, her major areas of research are in analytical studies. She has investigated strategies to enhance health and well-being of children, the causes and prevention of birth defects, maternal and child health in Aboriginal and Caucasian populations, and the causes and consequences of low birth weight. |

Over many years she has advocated a collaborative approach to enable a better understanding of how genetic, biological, social and economic factors interact to affect the healthy development and well-being of children and young people. Prof. Stanley played a strong role in establishing the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth in 2002, and is Founding CEO. She is also a Founding Director of the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research.
